Lady Myers Resigns From

War Funds Committee

Because of indifferent health the resignation of Lady Myers from all activities associated with the committee was tendered, with regret, at the monthly meeting of the Great War funds administrative committee of the Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society. The chairman, Mr. E. C. Hale, referred to the long aud distinguished services given by Lady Myers from 1914 to the present day. Her good work was esteemed not only by the committee but particularly by the disabled ex-servicemen, to whom she had proved a mother and friend. It was resolved to accept the resignation with sincere regret and that gratitude for her past services be recorded iu the minutes.

Mrs. Guthrie re.ported that the women’s committee had met each day at the rooms to pack and distribute comforts to ex-soldier patients in hospital. Hospital visitors reported that weekly visits had 'been paid to the men at the institutions around Wellington in which they were under treatment, and comforts iu tbe form of cigarettes, tobacco, chocolate, distributed. A cJtatement showed that the sum of £238/10/1 had been expended in providing extra comforts to the men in hospitals during the quarter ended March 31, 1942. The amounts expended on the principal institutions were as follows: —I’orirua Mental Hospital, £95; Wellington Public Hospital, £5l; Ewart Ward, £2l; Central Park Hospital, £l5; Mowai Home, £35. .During the month IS patients had been under treatment at the home in Hobson Street, six of whom were from the 2nd N.Z.E.I'’.

Birthday Celebration. The Mayfair Cabaret was Hie scene of an enjoyable evening on Tuesday, when a party was held iu honour of the birthday of Private S. Wallace, of the Army Inspection Department.
