Vice-Regal. Government House. Wellington, April 15. His Excellency the Governor-General, attended by Major C. J. Ilollaud-Miir-tin, arrived at Wellington from Auckland tliis morning. During the forenoon li’is Excellency presided at a meeting of tlie Executive Council. Subsequently his Excellency received Mr. J. A. Hayden, secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board. In the afternoon the Governor-Gen-eral received his Excellency the United States Minister to New Zealand, and Commodore Sir Atwell 11. Lake, Chief of tlie Naval Staff. His Excellency left Wellington for Auckland this evening. Sir Charles Norwood returned to Wellington from the south yesterday. Mr. C. R. Edmond, Wellington general secretary of the New Zealand Motor Trade Association, is in Auckland. Mr. R. E. Price, chairman of the Waterfront Control Commission, returned to Wellington yesterday from Auckland. Mr. Peter Holgate, tlie well-known Wellington structural engineer, has been engaged by the Public Works Department for essential war work. The Hon. Mr. Justice Kennedy, who has been attending the sittings of the Court of Appeal in Wellington, left yesterday for Dunedin. The Hon. Mr. Justice O’Regan, Wellington, has returned to Auckland to preside over sittings of the Court of Arbitration there. Commissioner J. Evan Smith, territorial commander of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, returned to Wellington yesterday from Auckland. Mr. Jacob Elliott, a member of the Kailway Superannuation Board, arrived in Wellington from Auckland yesterday.
.Mr. B. W. Charman, engineer to the Timaru Harbour Board, has been granted leave of absence to take up a post with tire Navy Department for the duration of Hie war.
Sergeant A. C. Hulme, V.C., who has been receiving medical treatment at Rotorua during the last nitre months, has left for Nelson before resuming Army duty.
The Most Rev. C. Wes’,-Watson, Christchurch, Primate and Archbishop of New Zea laud, and oilier bishops of tlie Anglican Church in New Zealand, are in Wellington for committee meetings of tire General Synod. Messrs. E. L. Meek and W. R. Setter, Wellington, and H. AV. 8. Walker, Levin, have been granted tire status ot A.P.A.N.Z. (associate public accountant)" in the New Zealand Society of Accountants.
Count K. Wodzicki, tlie Polish Con-sul-General, has returned to Wellington from a week’s visit to Lincoln College, Canterbury, where lie lias been engaged in research work in association witli Professor C. T. McMeekan.
Mr. L. F. Row, city engineer of Wanganui, has been granted temporary leave of absence to engage in work of national importance at the request of tlie Government. Mr. AV. J. Frelhey. assistant engineer, will be acting-en-gineer during the absence of -Mr. Row.
Mr. J. R. Baird, formerly assistant engineer in Hamilton, is now engineer of that borough. Tire position of assistant engineer has been tilled by (lie appointment of Air. B. Kalaughet, assistant engineer in the Public Works Department, Hamilton.
Messrs. J. B. Burnett, A. G. Little, A. P>. Diamond, J. I. MeEnnis, P. U. P-ore H S. Read and J. C. Smaill, Wellington, and .Mr. C. Norris, Lower Hutt, have been admitted, to membership or tlie New Zealand Society of Accountants* with the status of A.R.A.N.Z. (Associate Registered Accountant).
Lieutenant-Colonel K. J. Wtilket, officer in charge of the administration of tlie Southern Military Command, has been promoted to Hie rank of colonel (temporary). Colonel Walker has been an officer of tlie New Zealand Perimineiit Staff since lie returned after live years of overseas service witli the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Great War.
