Record Collection Of Wellington Rates 98.1 PER CENT. OF LEVY A preliminary report on city finances was presented to the Wellington City Council last night by the city treasurer, Mr. B. O. Peterson. A feature of the year’s figures was the extraordinarily high proportion of rates collected, the estimate being £629,462 and the amount collected, including arrears, being £631,876. Petrol tax returns, £22,518, were also in excess of the estimate, £20,500, as were heavy traffic fees, £2.1,630 (estimate £20.000) ; rents totalled £65,923 (£65,000) ; water by meter, £33,582 (£31,000) : but licences, £13,873 were below the estimate, £15,500. The rate collection represented 95.1 per cent, of the levy, the highest for 30 vears. The total payment made on account of the E.P.S. was £28,856, of which £10.419 related to expenditure on public shelters. Tiie cost of storm damage to March 31 was £8056.
