REMARKS BY MAYOR OF LOWER HUTT
Explanation To Be Sought
Exception to remarks made recently by the mayor of Lower Hutt, Mr. Andrews, to the effect that certain improvements in a portion of the land taken over by the Lower Hutt City Council from the Hutt County Council had not been recorded iu the valuation rolls, was taken by several councillors at yesterday’s meeting of the Hutt County Council. It was stated that Mr. Andrews had made a mistake and was understood to be sending a letter of explanation. Cr. J. B. Yaldwyn: It’s about two months ago since the statement was made. I think we should express our exceeding surprise that the mayor of an adjoining local body having made an incorrect statement which has found its way into the Press, should not have corrected it. I am surprised he has not apologized. It was a very definite reflection both on this council and its officers. It was decided to ask Mr. Andrews for an explanation.
