Turkish-German Trade
(Received October 17, 11.45 p.m.) LONDON, October 16. The Istanbul correspondent of “The Times,” belying von Papen’s optimism, says Turkish-German tra’de is practically at a standstill, while British merchandise is flowing into Turkey. A British engineering firm is constructing a new jetty at Alexandretta to ease the shipping congestion. Lord Carlisle, head of the United Kingdom commercial organization, visited Palestine, where co-ordination of land and sea transport facilities is now available, the land routes being via Basra or across Syria.
