ACROSS THE SOUTH ATLANTIC
Bomber For Britain
(Received October 17, 5.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 16. Some American bombers are now being ferried to the Middle East and Britain, via Florida, the Vest Indies, British Guiana and Brazil, said the Chief of the United States Army Air Corps, who has returned to Britain from a tour of the Middle East. The bombers were flown across the South Atlantic to centres on the West African coast, from which they could be flown via Gibraltar to Britain or across Africa to Cairo. The southern route to Britain took about eight days compared with 12 hours via the direct northern route, he said, but the weather on the northern route was not always favourable.
