TRAMWAY SERVICES
Seatoun Tunnel Problem Full service was restored ou the Wadestown tram route, ou which a single line had been operating meanwhile, at 5.30 p.m. on Saturday. During tlie rush hours, from 1.1.30 a.m. till 1 p.m.. a double track was in service for a period, but later traffic was restricted again to facilitate the manoeuvring of trucks removing the spoil from the cutting. The Birdwood Street bus route has not yet been reopened, and the Karori buses have been following the tram route. It is likely that for most of the week it will be possible to work only a single line through the Seatoun tun nel, where another five tons of rock came down on Saturday afternoon. There is a row of trees only a foot from the top edge of the breaking rock face, ami these may lie removed today. The looseness of the rock is creating a problem, and it appears that the only practical solution will be the construction of a wall similar to that ou the opposite side to where the falls have been occurring. It is estimated that this might cost £250 to £3OO.
