TUDOR THEATRE
George Bernard Shaw seems to have lost none of his magic for picturegoers. "Major Barbara" entered the sixth week of a Wellington season yesterday when it was transferred to the Tudor Theatre.
Too many people have already seen the film and too much has already been written about il to bring anything now to the praise which must go to Shaw, to Wendy Hiller who plays tlie title role, and ;o the English film studios for the excellent entertainment that "Major Barbara'’ provides. When G.B.S. brought Hie Salvation Army, Greek philosophy, the aristocracy and a munitions manufacturer together there was bound to be fun of one kind’ and another. Wendy Hiller is Major Barbara, daughter of an armaments king and a major of the Salvation Army. She has an attraction for Adolphus (.’using, student of Greek philosophy, and he decides to forsake Plato for the Booths. ■
Everything ends quite happily, proving that Shaw is not the cynic he would like the world to think. Rex Harrison plays opposite Wendy Hiller and smaller parts stand out as cameos in a film that fully merits its long stay in Wellington.
