FRUIT SUPPLY
New Zealand Grapefruit “There is at present a plentiful supply of lemons throughout the Dominion, and, in fact, any banking up of stock at the packing sheds is solely on account of the supply being greater than the demand, though as the result of advertising the demand, is at present above that of previous years, said the Minister of Marketing, Mr. Barclay, replying to a question by Mr. Doidge (Opposition, Tauranga). Mr. Doidge asked whether complaints that lemons were scarce and dear might not be due to some delay in clearance from depots where there was some congestion. He also, asked whether, in view of the falling off ot orange importations, the situation could not be met by an advertising campaign to inform the people of the fact that New Zealand grapefruit was the best in the world and an excellent substitute for oranges. The Minister said that New Zealand o-rapefruit production was not equal to the demand, and the latest reports from Wellington and Auckland indicated a shortage for this ■ time of th® year. Prices were higher in Auckland than id "Wellington, though Auckland was comparatively near production points.
