PAY FOR FAMILIES OF SOLDIER DEFAULTERS
‘•While no one can justify payment to a soldier who is defaulting in his obligations, the wife and children of a soldier should not suffer from the husband’s default, seeing that the Government has wisely made provision for the wife and children of a civil defaulter,” said Mr. Lee (Democratic Labour, Grey Lynn) in a note to a question addressed to the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser. Mr. Lee asked tiie Prime Minister if it was not possible to secure some method by which wives and children dependent on soldiers’ allotted pay could have their necessitous circumstances immediately referred to the Social Security Department and that department be given power to maintain the wives and children’s income in the event of the soldier having his pay reduced for disciplinary purposes.
