DUVACH NOT TO START IN EPSOM
Prospects Of Algerian (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.l SYDNEY. October 2. Following Duvach’s poor form at Ascot yesterday, trainer R. S. Bagby said the horse would not start in the Epsom Handicap. Duvach, ridden by Darby Munro, finished third in a division of the Flying Handicap, and her running was subject to an inquiry by the stewards, who, however, accepted Munro’s and Bagby's explanations. Another New Zealander. Algerian, who has been supported for the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps, bad his first Australian run in the Ascot Handicap and shaped poorly. As the race was run on a soft track, and in heavy rain, it might be unwise to judge Algerian on this display.
Vivid Elash Destroyed. The Otaki owner-trn iner A. D. Webster was unfortunate this week to hxe the services of Vivid Flash, by Wheriko from Western Sky. while working on the Otaki course. The horse was being worked from the three furlong peg to the judge’s box when it fell, breaking a leg, and had to be destroyed.
