CONCERN FELT FOR SMALL SHIP
Considerably Overdue MOTOR-VESSEL FOXTON (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, October 1. Concern is felt for the safety of the South Taranaki Shipping Company’s motor-vessel Foxton which is considerably overdue at Patea. The vessel was due at Patea from Wellington between 5 .and 6 p.m. on Tuesday but she had not berthed at Patea at a late hour tofiight. The Foxton has a crew of 10. The master is Captain G. A. Williams. The Foxton left Wellington on Monday night for Patea. When she did not arrive steps were taken to ascertain her whereabouts, planes travelling along the coast and shipping on the same course being asked to keep a look-out for the ship, which possesses a receiving wireless set but not a transmitter. "We have had no word of the ship, which is definitely overdue,” said the secretary of the shipping company, Mr. G. Corbett. He did not disguise that there was some concern at her nonarrival but he pointed out that other ships working the port had been known to be overdue as the result of a minor breakdown and the need for taking shelter.
