THEFTS FROM HOUSES
Man Admits Nineteen Offences Nineteen charges of breaking and entering houses in Wellington aud stealing from them, and four charges of breaking and entering houses with intent to commit theft were admitted in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday by Patrick James Bennett, engineer, aged 20. He was committed'to the Supreme Court for sentence on Tuesday. Occupiers of houses a it’d flats iu the city told how they left their homes unoccupied, iu the afternoons and on returning found the places had been entered by some unauthorized person. Sums of money, mostly small but ranging up to £22, petrol coupons and some small articles were missed. All the occurrences were iu August and the early part of September. Two detectives said accused admitted all the offences with which he was charged, and they produced his written statements to that effect. Accused had been frank and had given them all the assistance he could, they said. Mr. Luxford, S.M., was on the Bench. Mr. A. M. Cousins appeared for accused.
