First Session Of Final
The first of two sessions of 750-up for the New Zealand amateui billiards championship was played linsc night in Wellington, when, at the close of play, R. Carrick, a former champion, had 750 up against 635 by S. Moses, 1940 champion. The concluding session of the final will be played tonight, the points being 1500-up, including those scored last nightl Last night’s contest was an exciting one for a capacity house. Carrick took the lead early and retained it throughout. A.t one stage Moses was well behind and responded with a brilliant 114, the best of the night. With other breaks this enabled him to close the session only 115 down. Among the best breaks were: Carrick, 20, 48, 36, 21, 39, 47, 38, 22, 33, 42. 34, 23, 25, 43, 29 (unfinished) ; Moses, 40, 22, 21, 27, 114, 39, 22. 24.
Sergeant-Major J. Meldrum, N.Z.T.S., will referee tonight’s coutest, which will be held at the R.S.A. rooms, Victoria Street. -
