PRISONERS SENTENCED
Reformative Detention For Woman
Syfia Olive Booth, domestic, aged 21, was sentenced to two years’ reformative detention by the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday, for thefts from a flat in Wellington. When asked if she had anything to say, prisoner expressed a wish to 'be sent to Mt. Eden jail, Auckland. In reply to t»is Honour, the Ctown Prosecutor, Mr. W. K. Birks, said that all the. goods stolen, with the exception of £3 in cash, had been restored to the owners. After she had admitted that she had a number of previous convictions for false pretences and theft, his Honour remarked that prisoner had been given every opportunity. William Cunningham, labourer, aged 35, who had pleaded guilty to breaking and entering and theft at Wellington, was sentenced to reformative detention for two years. “Drink been my downfall,” said prisoner. “Yes,” remarked his Honour, “aj;d apparently you have been drinking methylated spirits.” “It is the first time I took that on.” prisoner said. His Honour told prisoner that he would have an opportunity of being released after serving 12 months if he deserved it; it depended an himself.
