SCOTTISH REGIMENT PARADES
Service In St. Andrew’s
The first, full-dress church parade of the AVelliiigton Scottish Regiment was held last night ami there was a full muster at St. Andrew’s Presby terian Church, where a sermon appropriate to the occasion was delivered by Dr. E. N. Merrington. The parade was under the command of Lt.Colonel J. L. McAlister, M.C., who had come down specially from Wanganui. -The pipe bands of Wellington, including the two college bands, took part in the parade and there was also a large attendance of members of the Wellington Association of Scottish Societies, including the president. Mr. J. G. MacKenzie, and of the Scottish Territorial Association, including Hie president, Mr. S. McDonald. Special Scottish psalms were sung. The bauds played the parade to ami from the chnrcli.
Dr. Merrington took as bis text II Timothy. 11, 3: “Thou therefore endure hardness as a good soldier ot Jesus Christ.” In welcoming members of the Scottish Territorial Association and Wellington Scottish Regiment at the beginning of his sermon, lie said that to the stirring strains of the pipes, the swing of tho kilt: and the rhythm of marching feet they had conic to Hie oldest: Presbyterian Church in New Zealand. In doing so, it was not. he trusted, merely au act of national and martial display, but had in it n sincere desire to acknowledge the sovereignty of Hie Almighty. The real glory of Scotland was expressed by its national bard when lie depicted bis father, the cottar, taking llm hall Bible, once his father's pride, and gathering his family for worship a nil l hen l lie ba rd added : "From scones like these mild Scnliu’s grmnleiir springs." Thai transcended Hie glory of Scotland's many heroes in the field of battle.
