Manager In London To Retire MR. J. FORBES APPOINTED After occupying the position of Rondon manager of the Bank of New Zealand for eight years. Mr. David F. Reid is to retire and he succeeded by Mr. John Forbes, assistant manager in London. Other changes in the staff of the bank have been announced also. Mr. Reid was born at Arrowtown, Central Otago, in 1879. He joined the Colonial Bank service at Queenstown on November 22, 1894. and a year later that of the Bank of New Zealand at Arrowtowu. Mr. Reid remained in the bank’s service in Central Otago HU February, 1901. when he was transferred to the head office, Wellington. For some time thereafter he was employed upon relieving duty in list’ North Island, gaining experience in a large number of branches of dilfereiit sizes. In -May, 1900, he was transferred to Palmerston North, where he remained for five years. In September, 1911, he was appointed assistant accountant at Auckland, and in November, 191-1. be was appointed to his first managership, at- Dargaville, where he remained till June, 1921. wlwn he was made manager at Feilding. in September, 1923. he was appointed manager at Palmerston North, and three vears later, manager at Wellington. On January IS. 1933, he succeeded Mr. K. -Mill as manager at London. In December, 1937, he was granted eight months' leave to visit New Zealand, and returned Home by way of the United States of America and Canada, establishing personal contact with the bank's agents in those countries. In recent months he lias bad the difficult tusk of carrying on the bank’s business through air raids, which finally made the premises unreliable last month. Mr. Forties, who succeeds -Mr. Reid in London, had a distinguished military career in the Great War, being called to the colours on August 4, 191-1. Ho attained the rank of captain and w:i«’ wounded in action. He resumed his duties at the bank on February 1, 1919. Mr. Forbes joined Hie bank’s service at London on January 3. T.Hit. at. rhe age of 21. Always regarded as a promising officer, lie was given experience in the various departments in Hie Rondon office, an'd in 1926 he was appointed as head of Hie outward bills department. On May .1, 1931. he was appointed assistant accountant, and in September, 1939, he succeeded Mr. W. G. Paterson as accountant, tn April (his year he was appointed assistant manager.

Other staff changes in the Bank of New Zealand's service include the retirement, because of ill-health, as on June 30 next, of Mr. R. W. Stevens, who for eight years has been manager of the Te Arolia branch. Mr. Stevens joined the bank’s service at Cromwell. Central Otago, in .1903. After gaining experience in the Auckland, Itaetibi. and Marton branches, he was transferred to the head office in 1919, and two years later was appointed manager at. Riverton, lit May, 1921, he was promoted its manager at Motueka, and three years later be was appointed manager at Matamata. He was appointed manager at Te Aroha in 1933.

Mr. L. B. Savage, manager a: Wltakatane. succeeds Mr. Stevens as manager at Te Aroha. Mr. IL L. King, accountant at; Thames, has been appointed manager at Whakatane, and Mr. N. J. MacGibbon. of the head office, has been appointed accountant, at: Thames.
