Carr, lias been gazetted with the acting rank of Air Vice-Marshal. lie acted as flying officer for Shackleton's last expedition ami served in the last war in France and later in North Russia, where he gained the D.F.C. He was selected in 1927 officially to attempt for Britain tiie world’s nonstop flight, record, but after three attempts he was obliged to give up.
