MEN FOR FIGHTING SERVICES
New Classification In Australia , (Received June 22, 9.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, June 22. Another 100,000 men will become eligible for enlistment in the A.I.F. or liable for compulsory home service under the new reserved occupation list now being prepared. The age limits in some categories will be raised. Office workers and craftsmen not considered essential to the war effort will be the main source to be tapped. There are 1,250,000 men of military age in Australia, but the number in reserved occupations has been kept secret. The new list will probably bring more than one third of this total into the manpower pool for the fighting services. Each industry is being closely surveyed for its Importance in the new policy of speeding up production. munitions and equipment. Mr. Spender believes that probably thousands of men who wish to enlist but are in reserved occupations have been refused permission by their employers. lie considers that the rights granted to employers in this respect have been to liberal.
