ORNITHOLOGISTS MEET
New Zealand Society The second annual meeting of the Ornithological Society of New Zealand was held at the Dominion Museum on Saturday, Dr. R. A. Falla presiding. There was a good attendance of members from all parts of New Zealand and outlying islands. Extracts were read from a letter from a South African ornithologist concerning reports that English birds introduced into New Zealand were laying smaller egg clutches than those in the original countries. The writer advocated research and desired to compare results with the laying of African birds. Professor Wodzicki. ConsulGeneral for Poland, and a distinguished ornithologist, was welcomed. He said that because of the help of ornithologists outside Poland he had been able to leave, the country. He carried greetings from British ornithologists and praised the New Zealand Press for its active interest in scientific affairs. The appointment of more regional organizers and the collection of literature and photographs was debated. Discussion on school groups resulted in Messrs. McCaskill and Sibson being appointed advisers. It was decided to make detailed study of several birds and members were asked to send in information on their bird literature which could be consulted or borrowed. Financial resources were slender, It was reported, and this had influenced publications, but apparently, said Dr. Falla, the feeling was that reports should be more frequent. As there had been no nominations for new officers, the committee was reelected, with Dr. Falla as president. Dr. W. R. B. Oliver remains vice-presi-dent for the North Island, and Mr. E.. F. Stead for the South, with Professor B. J. Marples, director of Otago University musenm and founder of the society, secretary-treasuter.
