CLEAN SWEEP IN LOWER HUTT CITY
The feature of the voting in the Hutt Valley elections was the clean sweep made by the Citizens’ ticket candidates for the Lower Hutt pity local bodies. The new council is entirely composed of Citizens’ candidates, Labour losing the three seats previously held and one Independent being beaten. Mr. J. W. Andrews, the sitting mayor, was returned witli a substantial majority from his Labour opponent, Mr. H. V. Horlor, who was on the outgoing council. Sitting Labour representatives on the hospital board and power board were also beaten. At Petone Mr. G. London (C.), who is on active service, was returned unopposed for the mayoralty. Labout lost one of the three council seats it previously held. The personnel of the council underwent other changes. Imo previous members who stood as Independents, being replaced by Citizemcandidates. At: Upper Hutt there was a smad fall. The sitting Labour mayor. Mr. J. Blewman, was returned by a small majority. Labour lost one of its seats on tile council, representation now being five Independents and three Labour. Mr. J. Purvis. Independent ticket candidate for the mayoralty, was on the outgoing council.
At Eastbourne the sitting mayor, Mr. E. W. Wise, was returned unopposed. All the members of the old council who stood were returned.
