Bombing German Cities ENCOURAGEMENT OF ANTI-NAZIS (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Received May 14, 7.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 13. Major-General John O’Ryan, a former World War commander, who is the newly-appointed Director of Civilian Defence activities, advocated immediate American participation in the bombing of German cities. “By operating from English bases we can give Hitler two bombs for one now,” he said.
The Vice-President, Mr. Wallace, addressing a broadcasters’ convention, forecast that the time was coming very soon to call up decent civilized Germans inside Germany against Hitler, lie added that America was prepared to encourage anti-Nazis here and abroad.
The Congressional Coinage Committee has approved the extension of President Roosevelt’s money devaluation authority, which expires on June 30, for two years, amending the maximum price for purchasing foreign gold to 35 dollars an ounce. The President’s secretary. Mr. Stephen Early, announced that Mr. Roosevelt had recovered, but his doctor thought he would be wise to remain at tiie 'White House for at least another day.
The Senate Naval Affairs Cpramittee has approved a Bill authorizing the navy to classify aircraft as well as vessels as prizes of war.
