ENTHUSIASM FOR WORK
Transport Girls Of War Service Auxiliary
More than 200 members of the Transport section of the Women's War Service Auxiliary met at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Wellington, on Tuesday night for an A.A. lecture, followed by >i social
evening. fi’he meeting was held with the idea
of inspiring greater co-operation in the three groups —Transport. Cycling, and Signalling—which comprise this section of the W.W.S.A., and the opportunity was taken of having a full and frank discussion to this end. It was the first time the members of the three groups had met together socially, and it was such a success that it will probably be the forerunner of other meetings of a social nature throughout I he winter. The girls discussed the work achieved and future developments, and those who have recently joined up learnt much of what training is necessary and bow to go about it. More than 200 girls have already completed part of their training and are ready to g’o on to more skilled branches of their work. All of the groups in the section must take First Aid, A.A. lectures, and physical drill as part of their training courses. For the transport girls there, are classes in mechanics at the Wellington -technical College, and other facilities are available where practical work may be learnt. They must have ordinary and heavy traffic driving licences, and many other qualifications, all ol which involves much study and work. Signallers’ and Cyclists’ courses include a sound knowledge of map-reading, general information, rtil£s of the road, and so on. . So much enthusiasm is shown m the Transport section that these girls, with all other members of the various sections in the W.W.S.A.. will be trained and ready to meet, any calls which may he made on them in an emergency.
