LIFE LOST AT SEA
Mrs. R. Stuart French
News that .Mrs. Robin Stuart French, wife of Major Stuart French, military secretary to the former Governor-Gen-eral of New Zealand, Viscount Galway, lost her life at sea, has been received by cablegram from Sydney. The ship in which Major and Mrs. Stuart French were returning to Ireland was torpedoed the day before it was due at its destination. Mrs. French was aboard a lifeboat which capsized. This news will arouse the sympathy of countless people in New Zealand who knew Major Stuart French during his residence in the Dominion. The couple had only been married about eight months after a whirlwind courtship in Sydney. Mrs. Robin Stuart French- was formerly Mrs. Joy Denbigh Russell, elder daughter of Mr. A. Allen-Jones and the late Mrs. AllenJones, Angle Vale, South Australia. She met Major Stuart French in Sydney when he was on his way back to New Zealand to resume duties with Lord Galway while on sick leave from his regiment, 11th Hussars. He had been recalled to England by his regiment at the outbreak of war. Their marriage took place quietly on August S of last year at the Fullerton Memorial Church in Sydney. Among the pianoforte presentations at the St. Mary’s College Concert in ■Wellington on Tuesday night three items which aroused interest were those given by Aileen Casey, Fat McCombe, and Noeline Loamy.
