SOCCER CONTROL
No Chatham Cup Matches This Season MEETING OF COUNCIL Because of the difficulties teams would be faced with concerning travel and securing leave for players, the council of the New Zealand Football Association decided yesterday not to hold Chatham Cup matches for the present season. The decision was • reached after long consideration had been given to many issues, principally the fact that the competition had been instituted to assist duo football. The council recognized the importance of giving every encouragement toward the maintenance of a high standard of club'football. Many leading teams, however, had been seriously depleted by enlistments in the fighting forces, and in the Home Guard. Ihe question of leave for players at such a time was also considered. The concensus of opinion was that it would be in the best interests of clubs to drop the competition for the present season. . . It was agreed to carry on with I .A. Trophy matches, and that the pooling system adopted last year again operate. It was also decided to carry on with the Brown Shield (no subsidy), and Peter Dawson Cup matches. The question of the schools tournaments was left in *he hands of the districts concerned, consideration to be given to them when the applications to hold them, or otherwise, were received. Affiliation fees for the season were fixed at £6/6/- for major associations, and £2/2/- for minor associations. Mr. F. Campbell was re-elected chairman of the council for the season, and Mr. F. Sanders vice-chairman. The following committees were elected:—Finance, Messrs. Renai (convener), Campbell, Hollis, Ollier, and Wilson; competitions, Messrs. Sanders (convener), Hicks, Vaney, Dick and Bryce; suspensions and protests, Messrs. Hicks (convener), Bryce, Dick and Martin; schools, Messrs.
