GIFT APPRECIATED
60 Cases Of Eggs Sent To Mersey Hospitals
LETTER FROM BRITISH FOOD MINISTER The following, letter of appreciation from Lord Woolton, British Minister of Food, has been received by Mrs. F. D. Herrick, Tautane, Hawke’s Bay, on behalf of women’s organizations in the district which combined to send Home a large quantity of eggs last year for distribution to hospitals in the North of England:— “Dear Mrs. Herrick,—l am writing to thank the members of the Women’s Institute and Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union for their generosity in consigning 60 boxes of eggs for distribution to Merseyside hospitals. I have had these eggs distributed as nearly as possible in proportion to the number of beds in the hospitals, and you will be pleased to learn that owing to the generosity of Lovell and Christmas, of Liverpool, the eggs were delivered to the hospitals free of charge. All the recipients have been notified of the source of the gifts, and I have no doubt they will be writing to you direct.
“I can assure you that such gestures as yours do much to encourage us here in the struggle which we are carrying on.—Sincerely, Woolton.” Mrs. Herrick states that letters have been received from eight Liverpool hospitals thanking the organizations for the eggs, a wonderful gift to receive in present times. The eggs, which were sent Home through the Internal Marketing Department, were the gift of the Women’s Institutes and Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union in Hastings, Waipawa, Otane, Waipukurau, and Danuevirke.
