A FIELD DAY

Trentham Stables At Carterton SIGLOW AND ENRICH WIN / (By The Watcher.) - Small fields, and the opposition of a queen carnival at Masterton, proved a big hurdle for the Carterton Racing Club’s annual meeting at Clareville on Saturday. The attendance naturally suffered and so did the totalizator returns. It is a pity that the various bodies in the Wairarapa cannot show more co-operation in their efforts and it would seem a simple matter to avoid such u clash, seeing that racing dates ahe fixed 12 months ahead. There was nevertheless some interesting racing, with Trentham stables supplying the majority of the competitors they naturally had a field day, and won seven races out of the eight. The stable of 11. Telford won the two principal races, the Wairarapa County Cup and Bailey Memorial, with Siglow and Enrich respectively, and he also won with Parchment. S. Anderson rode three winners. The day was fine and hot. The traeK was in excellent order and fast. The totalizator returns for the day were £4602210/-, a decrease of £2519. Surprise In Maiden Elying Hawk surprised by defeating the favourite, Saka Bona in the maiden, but it was a good performance. Saka Bona looked like winning when he caught the pacemaker. Equity, who- at one stage had a substantial lead, but. he was unable to withstand the strong late run of Flying Hawk. Half Caste, who drifted in the middle stages, was finishing strongly again for a good third. Won All the Way. Namesake won the Highweight all the way, and it resolved itself into a question of whether he would be caught, by Locrian in the straight. He hung on just too well for his challenger. Metonymy finished on for his third. Golden Ridge petered out. Siglow’s Cup. Siglow had only Counter to beat in the County Cup, as the only other starter, Siegmund, broke down practically at the start. Counter set a sound paco and was well clear at one stage, but Siglow was always travelling well in behind him, and though the winning margin was not great, it could have been extended. An Easy Win.

Wakarara ran the hack sprinters off their feet in the Carterton Handicap and never looked like 'being caught. The favourite, Blue Border, put up a sound effort under histweight, but had no chance of making up the ground. Beau Ciel Sticks On.

The distance hack race resolved itself into a question whether Maharajah, who moved up last round the turn, would overhaul the pacemaker, Beau Ciel. He went close to it, but Beau Ciel stuck on just too well for him at the finish. Enrich Does Good Work.

Enrich won the Bunny Memorial from start to finish. Although inclined to pull hard if out in front, die settled down well early, and Counter moving up to him at the five did not cause him any trouble. They staged an interesting duel thereafter, but in the straight Enrich was able to draw away. Alunga finished better than White Rajah for the minor placing. Brilliant Autolite.

Autolite outclassed her opponents in the scurry. Beginning well, she allowed Yurilla and Pillory to head her off on the turn, but she was able to run to the front again entering the straight without leaving the fence, and she then strode away. Yurilla held on for- second from Equity, who finished ou .from well back. Wakarara, who received a check at the half, beat the rest. Parchment's First, Parchment, Mr. T. Coltman’s English horse, scored hie first win in New Zealand when he beat Namesake in the hack seven. It was not an impressive performance, as he had to be hard ridden to get up, and he was also fortunate that Namesake left the fence in the straight and gave him the opening which enabled Parchment to drive through and win. However, the winner showed courage and stamina. Details Of The Racing MAIDEN PLATE, of £7O. Six furlongs. 5 FLYING HAWK, Ebb Simpson’s b. g„ 3yre., by 'Lackham—iDegage, 8.12 (S.
