AUTUMN SHOW

Northland Horticultural Society Pom-pom dahlias of instant appeal were exhibited at the Northland Horticultural Society's autumn show, held in St. Anne's Hall on Saturday. Entries of excellent quality were fogward in the children's decorative section, and the same applied to the section for vegetables. The greater part of the credit, for the show's success goes to the society’s energetic secretary. Mr. T. L. Boyes. Tlie Consul-General for China in New Zealand, Mr. Feng Wang, who was accompanied by Madame Feng Wang, one ciallv opened the show. Because the society's president. Mr. G. S. Nieoll, was ill. -Mr. Waug was, introduced by a vice-president, Colonel F. Burton Mabin. Colonel Mabin said he considered that though the British Empire mis in the midst of a great struggle, his listeners were justified in relaxing from patriotic ell'ort, from every effiMt in the winning of the war. so that, they could enjoy lhe flowers displayed in the hall. The champion of champions and champion bloom in the dahlia section, a “Clara Carder,” was exhibited by Mr. A. J. Manton, and the champion hydrangea by Mrs. McXabb. The A. Morris Jones trophy tor the most 'tiolnts gained in the cut flottei classes throughout the season was won by Mrs. J. Abernethy; the J. Abernethy special prize for the most points gained throughout the season in the papsy and viola open classes, by Mr. J. S. Vickers, with Mr. J. Atkinson second; the J. 8. Vickers special prize for pansies and violas. by Mrs. Mclvor; the T. L. Boyes trophy for the most points in the decorative classes throughout the season, by Mrs. G. S. Nieoll; the J. Abernethy special for the most points gained in the children's decorative classes, by Bernice McSweney, with Elsie Mclvor second; and the.
