RONGOTAI COLLEGE CADETS

Annual Week Of “Barracks”

The cadet unit of Rongotai College, has for the past week been engaged in the annual “barracks,” held this year on Kilbirnie Recreation Ground. An elementary infantry course included battalion manoeuvres, company, platoon, and section drill, and minor tactics. As a part of the physical training programme, instruction in resuscitation was given by boys who had the necessary life-saving award. During the afternoons, field exercises were held on Mt. Victoria, and section-leaders became proficient in scanting, stalking, and the use of camouflage. The unit was inspected on Thursday by the principal, Mr. F. Martyn Renner, who commented favourably on the bearing, of the cadets. Lieutenant-Colonel Foster was present on Friday for a short time while the unit, was drilling, and he said he was'particularly pleased with the N.C.O.’s, and he had never seen first-year cadets work so well. Results of competitions are:-—Best company. 0 Company (Sergeant-Major Gendall) ; best platoon, No. 1 platoon, D Company (Sergeant Hawker) ; best cadet. Corporal S. Moore.
