IS GERMANY A HOPELESS CASE?
“Is Germany a Hopeless Case?” by Rudolf Olden (London: Allen and Unwin).
By one'of the ironies of fate the author of this plea for the German people, himself a former assistanteditor of the “Berliner Tageblatt,”Jost his life by the action of the Nazis whom lie seeks to show are not typical of many of ordinary folk who go to make up the population of Germany. He was aboard the City of Benares when she was sunk when carrying children across the Atlantic.
His mission in writing this little book was to remind English people of the existence in Germany of a genuine liberal and peace-loving element, never yet victorious, but never ceasing in some way to struggle. The book was written at the request of Professor Gilbert Murray and Dr. Edwyn Bevan in an effort to prevent the just hatred of Prussianism and Nazism spreading, as they put it, to all those 70.000,000 Germans with whom we shall later have to live on peaceful terms.
