LOCAL BODY AND PARLIAMENT
Not Comparable Issues
“'Members- of local bodies are not politicians, they are trustees charged with the responsibility of administering funds provided by the people for use ni the interest of all,” said a leading citizen who has had considerable experience of local body affairs. “Consequently, no hirm could be done, nor any democratic principle violated if the' local body elections were jxmed for one, or even two years. “The question of the postponement of the Parliamentary elections is not a comparable problem. In such a national issue a democratic principle is involved; Parliament makes the laws governing the people, and these laws affect each individual so vitally that great harm may be done to the social and economic life of the people who differ in politics from the party in power, should the life of Parliament be prolonged.”
