(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright./ (Received February 18, 9.10 p.m.,’
LONDON, February 17. The “Daily Telegraph" says the Vichy Vice-Premier, Admiral Darlan, is reported to be visiting Paris, where he will be in a strong position to face whatever fresh demands the German Ambassador, Herr Abetz. presents. The arrival of German commissions in Africa is reported front various quarters, the pretext for them being economic. The authorities in the French colonies will be obliged to receive them if authorized bv Admiral Darlan. Apparently the Germans are still not satisfied with the attitude of the Vichy Government. The German radio reports that tlie former Minister of Aviation, now one of the most energetic advocates of German co-opera-tion. said today that the aims of the new LTench National Popular Party could only be realized b.v its taking over power. .Tlie very atmosphere, lie said, wus charged with revolution. His statement was made at a demonstration of thi- party in Paris.
Germany is generally believed to have demanded the French ileet and naval bases. Though she did not get them after Admiral Darlan’s last visit to Paris. Germany does not regard the matter as closed. Tlie Vichy correspondent of the Ger-man-controlled newspaper "Petit Parisien” is at pains to make this point which sums up the German position. “The era of great negotiations is not ended. France and Germany have studied agreements, some of which have been satisfactorily concluded.” He adds that some French opinion believes that collaboration must extend to trade.
