WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

Meetings Begin For The Year Mrs. Fraser presided at the February meeting of tlie Eketahuna Women’s Institute. Mrs. Blewett gave an interesting demonstration on pine needle work. Nominations were taken lor the uew committee and delegates were elected to attend the annual council meeting to be held iu Pahiatua iu April. A flower show will be held in the Anglican schoolroom on March 13. Competitions were won by Mrs. Fraser and Mrs. Baucke. Members of the Kimberley’ Women’s Institute met for tlie first meeting of the year in Mrs. Crowe’s garden. Tlie usual business was carried through, then the institute birthday was celebrated at a social gathering. The birthday cake was presented by Mrs. Bryant. A visitor was Mrs. Nees, a former president of the Kimberley Institute. Members were reminded that the election of officers would take place at the March meeting. Winners in the flower competitions were Mesdames Fanning, Crowe, J. Griffith, Gawler and Field. There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Pongaroa Women’s Institute. Mrs. Kent presided. Nominations for officers for the ensuing year were taken and arrangements finalized for a display of work at the autumn show. Wool for headquarters was distributed for knittiug into balaclavas, scarves and pullovers. Members were asked to bring suitable ends of .wool and needles to the next meeting, to be knitted into peggy squares. During the month a presentation was made to Mrs. Stewart, who has left to live iu Wanganui. Competition winners were Mesdames Davies, Owen and Miss E. Kent.

The. January meeting of the Waitarere Women’s Institute was spent in packing parcels for the soldiers and preparing a programme for the February meeting. Arrangements were also made for the shop day to be held iu Levin, for patriotic funds, iu conjunction with the Koputaroa Institute, on February 18.
