BRITAIN’S STRIKING POWER
U.S. Senator’s Tribute
(Received February 9, 7.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 7.
Senator Josh Lee, a member of the Senate Military Committee, said the British and Australian successes in Africa, culminating in the fall of Benghazi, had greatly strengthened the Empire’s position throughout the world and “done much Io dispel any defeatist attitude in Congress and the country. "Britain’s brilliant successes demonstrate her terrific striking power once she gets the feel of the battle. Mr. Churchill warned Mussolini that Britain would smash his empire to bits if he entered the war. We are now seeing that happening. The African campaign demonstrates that Britain is fully capable of the blitzkrieg tactics which were also used against Continental Europe when the right time arrives.”
