CIVIL GUARD SCHEME
Civic Co-operation With Sub-Areas MAYOR’S ASSURANCE In furtherance of his policy of getting into personal touch with Citil Guards (E.P.S. personnel) in the various' sub-areas of Wellington City, the mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop) attended a meeting of the Koiburn subarea last night. Nearly 50 members were‘present, and the sub-area chief warden (Mr- -U. 0. Barnett) presided. The evening was devoted mainly to a report by Mr. Barnett on the progress of organization: also an explanation of a .system of co-ordination mid cooperation between civic headquarters and the sub-area establishments which has been submitted from Kelbnrn as a suggested model for a standardized form of suit-area instruction. A number of points were submitted to the mayor, who in a cordial reply gave the meeting mt assurance (hat the matters would be dealt, with. ROSENEATH MEETING A full muster id' Home au'd Civil Guards in the Roseneath sub-area has been called for tonight at 7 o'clock. Members will meet in the Roseneath School, and the various training units will be formed. FIRE BRIGADE DISPLAY Civil guardsmen attached to the Central, Kclburn, and Ilataitai subareas of Wellington will parade at the Central Fire Station at 7.30 o'clock tonight. In addition to receiving the first lecture in the series of eight arranged by the fire brigade officials in order that all guardsmen may be given training in fire-lighting, those on parade will have the opportunity of seeing in action all types of emergency equipment. THORNDON SUB-AREA The Th-orndon sub-area of the Home Guard is just over 200 strong, including 100 in the E.I’.S. section. The unit lias had l - wo Thursday parades and two Monday n.c.o. parades, which include the E.I’.S. section. These nights have been established as the parade nights. Already the E.I’.S. section has had lectures and practical demonstrations in cooperation wilh the Thorndon fire brigade. The committee of the area is engaged in an active canvas for membership and is gathering very good results.
