Theatre Manager’s Surprise A Liverpool theatre offered 5/- reward to the boy or girl, who brought Hie greatest number of empty tobacco tins to it matinee. The manager. Mr. J. J'affrtiy, discovered it is possible to have too much of a good thing even when it helps the wnr effort. The children turned up. So did the tins—6ooo of ft lent! One boy brought: a billycart full, a girl her contribution by pony and sulky. The prize-winner, young Tom Bamford, lugged along 542 tins. Now Mr. Jaffray wants to know what he can do with the tins. “I thought I’d be able to get the people from the Conservation of Salvage Department to take them, but when T rang tip their office I couldn’t get any answer.” lie said. "It. seems as if I’m stuck with tlie tins till next week—and. believe me. there’s u whale of a lump of them! 1 expected only about 300.”
