Returned Soldier Seriously Injured
CLOTHING ABLAZE

AUCKLAND, August 25,
Extensive burns to his head and body were received by William James Morris, a returned soldier, aged 53, when his clothing caught lire at his bach at Palm Beach, Waiheke Island, early on Saturday evening. Morrris’s clothing was almost burned from his body when he was found outside his burning house by neighbours. It is believed he was attempting to light a petrol stove and that it exploded, setting fire to his clothing and the building. Morris rushed out. of the bach with his clothes ablaze and collapsed on the roadway a short distance away, where he was found 'by nearby residents.
. After permission had been obtained from the naval authorities to enter the harbour, a launch made a fast trip to Auckland, where Morris was met by the ambulance and transferred to hospital. His condition is serious. The bach was burned to the ground.
