SUPPLEMENTARY AIR SERVICES
Palmerston North To
Dunedin
As from last Tuesday the tri-wcekl.v Auckland-Wellington-Dunedin passenger and airmail services, operated by Union Airways of New Zealand, Ltd., were supplemented by an additional service operating southbound between Palmerston North and Dunedin, via ■Wellington and Christchurch, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and northbound on Wednesdays and Fridays. This additional service, it was stated, has in no way disturbed the operation of the tri-weekly trunk services between Auckland and Dunedin, but by operating in conjunction with them between Palmerston North and Dunedin, a southbound service is provided from Mondays to Fridays and a northbound service from Tuesdays to Saturdays, thus giving a two-way daily service between these two points from Tuesdays to Fridays inclusive. The new services are operated with Lockheed Electra monoplanes, and the timetable has been arranged to provide connexions with express trains at Palmerston North. The southbound machine on Tuesdays and Thursdays leaves after the arrival of the Limited express from Auckland, thus enabling airmails posted in Auckland the previous day to be delivered in Christchurch and Dunedin less than a day later. The northbound machine from Dunedin on Wednesdays and Fridays arrives at Palmerston North in time to connect with the express trains to New Plymouth and Auckland. Previously the trunk air services were restricted to a southbound trip. Auckland-Dunedin, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and a northbound service, Dunedin-Auckland, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
