Several cases of diphtheria have been reported in Napier, but the inspector of health, Mr. G. H. Russell, says that they have by no means reached epidemic proportions. None of the cases has been serious, and the department has- taken all precautions. It is fortunate that at present the schools are closed for the end-of-term vacation.
