Margaret Semple Sewing Circle A very pleasant afternoon was spent by the Wellington East: I’atriotie Committee recently, when Mrs. M. Semple opened the new headquarters of Hie Kilbirnie branch "Margaret Semple Sewing Circle.” In declaring the new room iqieii Mrs. Semple said she was pleased to see so many women who were willing to give tlieir time to the humane work of sewing for the refugees. The women of Wellington East had come to the fore remarkably in patriotic work. Wonderful work had already been done in providing parcels for tlie soldiers overseas. Miramar, Seatoun and Kilbirnie helpers had all done good work. Combination had resulted in a splendid committee. Mrs. Semple expressed tier thanks for the honour and (lie pleasant surprise she had received when advised that Ihe eommillee intended to call tlie sowing circles,-(lie “Margaret Semple Sewing Circles.” Thanks were due to Mesdames Marnier, Furness and Parish who had cleaned and prepared Hie room. The decora I ion of Iceland popples gave a bright appearance to tlie surroundings’.

The committee expressed thanks to Mrs. Semple for Hie donation of a sewing machine, to Mr. .and Mrs. Cuff for an electric iron and sewing machine. Mrs. Hickmott for an electric heater, .Mrs. Mantlet' for tlie use of an electric machine, also Messrs. Large and Ci'., "lio hud arranged with Hie owners for Un- use of Hie premises, and Mr. J. Todd for c.'irlage.
