Spring foils the Frost
(Original by Spring Herald (13), Feilding.) gpnE sun peeped over the hills and shivered. The trees bowed under their white loads and the grass had a carpet of white. Jack Frost, an old enemy o£ sun, crouched under a heavily laden tree. He shuddered as a bright beam of light shot past him into the trees beyond. He had set a trap of strong rope across the path of the sun, and the sun walked straight into the trap! Jack Frost came out of tile trees and doubled up with laughter when he saw the sun’s sorry plight. The sun shone a bright, warm ray on Jack, and started to melt him. Jack ran and ran for ever such a long way, and then he bid where the sun could not find him. Next day Spring arrived. She brought with her a retinue of birds and young animals, flowers and fine days—and she banished the wretched Frost for a whole season.
