Britain’s Unpreparedness In 1939
Sir, —1 cannot understand, how any fair-minded person can blame Mr. Chamberlain for Britain’s position of unpreparedness at the commencement of the present war. I do not intend to mention any names, but everybody must know who was responsible in the first place for'that, together with the League of Nations. There can be no doubt that Mr. Chamberlain, by gaining the extra time for war preparation which he did, saved the whole Britisli Empire from almost certain defeat. That has been most conclusively proved during the course of this war. At that time all of those who have the effrontery to blame him, now were crying out that he should go to war. Can it be wondered at, therefore, that reasonable people are disgusted when they heatsuch unjust accusations being made. I am, etc., G. F. MOORE. Bushy Park, August 22.
