TEST RECITAL

Napier Contestant First COMPETITION AWARDS Final Of Dancing Scholarship The New Zealand test recital, which was held in the Concert Chamber last night in connexion with the Wellington Competitions Society’s annual festival, was won by Miss Valerie G. Lewis, Napier, who recited “Granchester” in addition to the set piece, “Fairyland” (A. G. Wilson). The women’s humorous recitation was another interesting class in the elocution section decided yesterday.

The principal event of the day in the dancing section was the final of the A.S.O.D. senior scholarship, won by Miss Shona Bennetts, Wellington. The women’s lieder, the men’s Irish folk song, and preliminaries of the women’s Irish folk song, and the soprano test solo were held, as well as two interesting junior vocal classes, the impersonation of a film star, which was won by a boy who impersonated Bobby Breen, and the vocal solo and accompaniment. In the Town Hull today there will be further junior dancing classes. In the concert chamber this morning there will be junior piano classes and the action song, 12-16 years, and in the afternoon junior elocution classes. In the concert chamber tonight there will be the piano solo, 16-21 years, the musical monologue (men and women) and a restricted vocal class for women. The concert in the large hall tonight will include a repetition by Miss Lewis of her winning recital, recalls from Important classes heard during the day and items by further competitors from the popular classes being judged gradually at the nightly concerts.
