WOOL APPRAISEMENTS

Earlier Than Usual This

PRICE SCHEDULE AMENDED

An announcement that wool appraisements would begin earlier than usual this year was made yesterday by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Lee Martin. The roster jf appraised dates for the 1940-41 wool-buying season had been completed, said the Minister. The first appraisal was scheduled for Auckland on November 14, and this would be followed closely by appraisals iu Napier, Gisborne and Wellington.. “The reason for earlier appraisals is the expressed desire of the Wool Controller in the United Kingdom that wools should be available for shipment at the earliest possible date,” said the Minister. “Farmers are urged to ensure that their wool is presented for appraisal as soon as possible aftei shearing. a . “As a result of experience during the last appraisement season, certain adjustments have been made .in the price schedule. These fl.re pa.rticulu.rly in the direction of making it profitable for farmers to separate belly wool from fleece wool, and in general to skirt and prepare their wools in the 'best possible manner. “Wool will be. handled at the same points as for the 1939-40 season, but the Government reserves the right to close down on appraisals at any points if found necessary to fit in with shipping requirements of His . Majesty s Government in Great Britain.”
