Work Of Wellington City Sub-Centre At the monthly meeting of the Wellington City Sub-Centre of 'the New Zealand Red Cross Society held recently, Mr. Chapman, M.P.. presided. * Il was reported that instructional classes in first aid, home nursing and hygiene for members were being carried out in both senior and junior divisions and the students in all subjects were showing keen enthusiasm for the work. A report, from the honorary secretary of the Red Cross Cafeteria stated that during the month it had served .1585 cups of tea. coffee and cocoa. The cafeteria was particularly appreciated by the out-patients during Hie winter months. The honorary secretary of the ladies’ auxiliary reported that the members had been busy cutting out and making bandages for the sick and wounded. A number of needy families had been supplied with layettes and clothing. Comforts in the form of cigarettes, tobacco, soap, tooth paste, talcum powder. books, had been taken and distributed regularly to inmates of Victoria Ward. The president of the women’s club reported that, members were aril working hard for their sale of work at the end of the year. The convener of the blind committee reported that, regular visits had been paid to a number of the blind folk during the month, and a number of requests for assistance in the form of clothing, wireless sets, medicine and other comforts granted. reported that the First Division WflS continuing foot and mechanized drill and tuition to all members in driving . and handling lorries was being given, a large number gaining their licavyvehicle licence. The Second Division was still undergoing its mechanical training. Tlie junior Bed Cross report indicated that all circles were carrying out a line programme of service to others, particularly in regard to orphanages, hospitals, ' needy families and patriotic purposes. A report from the delegate of the Women’s Voluntary Aid Detachment .slated that two women attended the Ked Cross Home to assist with the hospital mending. Twenty members assisted in the Victoria Ward during July. Four members helped with sewing" for Ihe Karitane Hospital, others continued their regular atlendnnee.sat (he Red Cross Home. Hobson Street, and attended Ute Central Bark Hospital weekly to distribute comforts. One member at t ended weekly lor duty at. the Wellington Hospital cafeteria, and JO members had been giving demonstrations at classes. Thirteen eases had been attended to during the month. Twelve members assisted the British Sailors’ Society witli its street day and seven members had been on duty in Trentliam Camp Hospital.
