DIVIDE AND PLANT
Scabious Now '.Recent improvements in perennial scabious have brought them into the front rank as border flowers, and they are favourites for cutting. It is the time to plant such varieties as caucasia now. This likes an open, sunny situation, and a rich soil, preferably light and well drained. It also loves lime,, and dislikes too much dampness. Scabious can be. propogated as soon as the shoots -begin to appear, by severing cuttings from the parent plants by means of a sharp knife. Make the cut. close to the crown, but it is not absolutely necessary to take a cutting 'with a heel. Plant out about four inches apart. One of the best new perennial scabious is Clive Greaves, a bright, lavender blue. Another good, deep lavender blue is Goldingensis. A good white variety is Miss Wilmott, which has very large blooms. Those who like the biennial or annual types of scabious might well try Blue Cockade, or the newly-evolved Blue Moon. The latter is a very vigorous grower with sturdy 2-3-foot stems, and large heads of completely double lavender blue flowers.
