The ibusy period in the kitchen garden is now just ahead of us. All plots intended for vegetables should be ready to receive seed or plants and other plots for succeeded ng crops should be in preparation. The following work can be pul iu hand now: — Cabbages: I’lant out seedlings and sow another lot of seed. Cauliflower: Sow seed now. Potatoes: Continue sowing of early and second-early varieties. Main crops can be sown early in September. Carrots: In cooler districts the main crop can be sown within the next few weeks.

Parsnips: Sow turnip-rooted variety for early crops. Peas: Sow at fortnightly intervals from .September onward. Turnips: Sow a small quantity now and repeat at monthly intervals till end of October. Lettuces: Plant out seedlings and sow another lot of seed.
