I By Telegraph—Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, August 21
A Dominion-wide campaign to organize the Home Guard was launched by the Minister of National Service, Mr. Semple, when he met representatives of Canterbury local bodies this morning. The .Minister explained the scheme, and stressed the important part that local bodies would play in making it a success. Delegates passed a motion expressing their determination to do everything to assist the scheme by instituting sections of the Home Guard in Canterbury, and the Minister was thanked for "his inspiring address.” With Mr. Semple were the organizer of the scheme, .Mr. 11. Sinel. and Mr. H. IL Sterling, who is assisting in the organization. The Minister said that New Zealand would be organized as never before. There wen* 300.000 men who could assist to defend the country, apart from the armed forces, and they could be organized in a way that would stagger the Dominion.
