WOMEN'S CORPS FORMING
Emergency War Effort in
Masterton
The formation of a women’s emergence corps has begun in Masterton, and the corps, the nucleus of which is now being organized, will later place at the disposal of the various patriotic institutions now in operation u body of trained girls and women who will lie able to help the home life of the l community from the disorganization caused- by enlistmen of men and the I war generally. The immediate aims of the organization are detailed as follows:— General service scheme, to place the services of the corps at the disposal of any public body working m the interests of the country and the Empire; first aid scheme, to induce as many members as possible who have not already done so to undergo training in this direction; mechanics scheme, to teach the girls to drive for transport, work, and to give a working knowledge of mechanics; drill scheme, to run a drill class among members to ensure physical fitness: produce scheme, to obtain the use of vacant sections for growing vegetable for institutions and necessitous’ cases, the girls so employed to be trained in this direction; home scheme, to help and look after the families of men who have enlisted for active service, service -in this direction to be given in the gardens, in the homes, and in the care of children. Provisional rules have been drawn up, providing for the elimination of both political and religious discussions at. the organization’s meetings, a pledge of loyalty and obedience, and the submergence of personal identity in order to achieve unity of purpose.
