Late Arrival Of Express REPLY BY DEPARTMENTS In reply to representations made at the last meeting of the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce on the late arrival of mails conveyed by the Limited express, the Chief Postmaster, Mr. F. G. Nind, sent the following letter to last night’s meeting of the council: — “I have to inform you that the records of this office indicate that the mails have arrived late since May 1, with the exception of May 17. The late arrivals vary in extent from five minutes on June 3 to 90 minutes on May 14. “It will be appreciated, no doubt, that late running of trains cannot be attributed to the Post Office, and on occasions when malls are not received on time every endeavour is made to expedite the sorting of correspondence with a view to minimizing inconvenience to business firms.” The railways district traffic manager at Wellington, Mr. A. T. Parkes, who is a member of the council, outlined the difficulties with which the department was faced, and said that since June 1 the arrival times of the Limited express had very much improved. The railways department, he said, tried to meet the business people of the city in the running of trains to time. All members of the operating staff had it impressed on them that they must' give preference to the Limited express as a very important link between Wellington and Auckland.
